the minute you have no art in your life, life becomes so drab and disappointing. Ive realized that when im involving myself in any kind of artistic venture or even just exposing myself to new forms of art, i feel extremely fulfilled. I work and am at school so often that i make excuses for ignoring my creative outlets, however this epiphany has got me back on track.

a few things have helped me get to this point. First, im working on making a vest for Jeff. Mens clothing is something ive never done or even tried. But luckily the initial pattern-making process went very well and now i just have some small tweeking to do before the final piece. I became overjoyed during the process.
then, yesterday we shot photos of my clothing with Amie, for my senior portfolio. Ive also never had to set up/style my own shoot. We had so much fun though! and the photographs came out really great.
Jeff and i are also still working on our magazine. We took a slight hiatus from it during the middle of summer but have recently got back in gear. Its really coming along, we've got some great content and Jeff has so many good ideas. Working on a magazine, is again something new for me but we've been having a good time with it.

so my new motto is make art everyday!

Im in portfolio class right now, drooling over the work of this French Illustrator/Graphic Designer Emmanuel Polanco. I really like his use of colour and clear inspiration from DaDa work. DaDa/collage concept was one of my initial ideas to use as a sort of theme in my portfolio and after seeing Polanco's work Im more inspired to do it than before.

i always wanted to find a home away from here

I came upon something really great today. Its a collaborative project between several artists, musicians, and performers called Miss Rockaway Armada. They travel down the Mississippi on a self built rafts with intentions of creating art and sharing it with others. SO AWESOME. i love this part from their website,
'Our precious cargo is everything we hold dear: pieces and parts of the culture we are already creating. Our zines and puppets, sewing projects and poster campaigns, mutant bicycles and punk rock marching bands. Plus our thoughts and dreams and irrepressible energy'

HERE

and this is a video tour of an installation they did at the Museum of Contemporary Art in massachusetts; that i REALLY want to go to. Theyre really inspiring.

TRYIN TO GET INSPIRED

but all i wanna do is skateboard. ha never thought id hear myself say that.

my 2 week break hasnt totally gone according to plan - which was to fully develop my senior collection thesis. thumbs down on that. i have been jotting down notes, doing quick sketches, and typing up more ideas but im not where i hoped to be yet.
i have to get everything out of my head, every last thought and possible idea.

ive been watching the new facehunter videos, they are pretty awesome. the blog is becoming about more than just street fashion photos; he's also documenting art - going to galleries and talking to artists, as well as music - documenting shows and meeting with up and coming bands.

i really wish i was in new york already, things are going to be so much better in 6 months.

the fashion show went super well! the models looked great, for the most part..there were a couple zoolanders in there, but all my girls did a good job and the garments looked awesome.

during the awards portion of the night, they gave out 5 awards. These are generally only open to seniors who made whole collections. But there was one for an up and comer who hasnt done senior collection yet, the award for most aspiring designer. I WON IT! I was completely surprised, but really proud of myself because I worked super hard on the piece I won it for. Well, I work hard on all my garments, but this one I especially devoted extra time to.

working on more more more projects. Im in the process of a frog inspired piece that is coming out pretty great so far. warning: its not green.

im also still working on the whole thesis of my senior collection. lots of notes and scribbles of my ideas. i have a few basic design philosophies and i want to follow those when designing the collection. i will share-- clothing shouldn’t be taken too seriously except in the sense of the execution and construction of it, clothing should feel very individual for everyone – unique & OK with different or weird, clothing shouldn’t feel like its always on the cutting edge of a trend it should be classic yet modern at the same time and never follow what others tell you it should be but more what you feel siked about wearing.
im a mess of thoughts right now.

Ever since I can remember being a little kid, riding around in the car with my dad listening to oldies, this song was always the one that did something to me. and to this day every time its on the radio or random play on my itunes, I get this super relaxed super siked vibe and feel so good.

anyways, thinking of how awesome i feel whenever i listen to that song made me realize that I want my clothes to make people feel that way. The Zombies probably didn't mean to make me feel so siked but they just did and I gotta figure out how I can make folks feel that siked about seeing and wearing my clothes. That song is probably going to sneak its way into my senior collection somehow.
